Summer term 2012

This term, you start off by having a choice of tasks. You can either write a composition as a group, or you can work on a new cover version of a song.

Cover

This should be a song that you all know, and one that you can play. You need to work independently as a group, putting the whole song together. You will be blogging about your progress, so that we can see week to week what you are achieving.
If you choose this, you must
  • Reflect on success and failure in the year so far, learning from the performances you have already completed
  • Work in a planned and organsed way - today you must blog about your plan for the half term.
  • Choose your song today
  • You will be assessed on the quality of your playing, and the quality of your performance.

Song writing

Here, you are writing a song. You should
  • Have the structure - Intro, Verse 1, Chorus 1, Verse 2, Chorus 2, bridge, Verse 3, Chorus 3, outro/ending
  • Write your own lyrics, or choose from those below. If using these, adapt to fit the structure.
  • Think about the instruments you are using, and select carefully.
  • Listen to some tracks in the style you will write your song, to get ideas. How are the instruments used? Do they play all the time? What music/riff is repeated?
  • Chords - you need to use the following chords in your song. Research how to play them this week or next.
    • Verse - C major (GCE), G major (GBD), A minor (ACE), F major (FAC)
    • Chorus - G major (GBD), E minor (EGB), F Major (FAC) F Major again
You need to blog about your progress every week as a group, so we can see how you are getting on.

Wednesday 14th March

Hello all

Today, you have a relaxing lesson.

Either:

  • Watch the fantastic Bill Bailey video below, all about instruments. Very very funny....
  • Complete a garageband instrumental version of your cover track. If you have a sound issue, run the m-audio script or turn off and on your a-audio box when garageband is working, or do both.
Then, you can list to and shout back about other peoples work on NUMU if you want.

Have fun!

Stools stacked, room tidy when you leave please.

Your NC level

This week, you will be given your updated National Curriculum level. Therefore in this week's lesson, you need to:

  1. Read the questions below. Copy them into a NEW blog and answer in as much detail as possible
  2. Put in what your new National Curriculum level is.
  3. Read the appropriate paragraph on the Levels page above.
  4. Write in your blog what you think you need to do to achieve the next National Curriculum level, or get an 'a' in the level you are on (e.g. if you are 5c, what do you have to do to reach a 5a?)
  5. Then, complete the form below, telling me all about your musical life. If you do not really have one, don't complete the form!
The questions:

  1. What is your current National Curriculum level?
  2. What level do you think you should be at by the end of Year 9?
  3. By reading the level descriptors, write down what you think you need to do to achieve your end of year target. List 3 things.
